Eating And Drinking Out

We always recommend pre-booking Restaurants a few days or more ahead as they often get full quickly, especially in peak season. If you arrive with us in the evening and then try to book a restaurant last minute, you may not be able to get in. Many Pubs also serve excellent food.

There’s everything from Michelin Star Fine Dining to fantastic roadside Fish and Chips within easy reach of Achalochan House, as ever, you pay your money and take your choice. Please don’t book ‘just in case’ and then cancel at the last minute.

Please be aware that the limit for Drink Driving in Scotland is 22 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. It’s much easier to just not drink if you’re the designated driver. Need a Taxi? See our information here.

We have listed places to eat that are local to Achalochan House. There are many more places to eat on Skye , mostly in Portree.

Michelin Star Fine Dining from Chef Michael Smith. Sublime seafood with no vegetarian options or allowance for Shellfish allergies. All locally sourced, some from the Loch right outside. We last ate here in July ’23. It was superlative.

Fine Dining, Skye born Chef Calum Montgomery Calum has worked as head chef at notable restaurants Kinloch Lodge and Ullinish Lodge and spent time at the Two Michelin Star Restaurant Frederikshøj in Denmark where he found great inspiration for his own cooking and took home a deeper respect for ingredients.

We’ve eaten here twice, once during lockdown so the atmosphere suffered. 2nd time was in September 23. It lacked several area of polish to justify the price tag in our opinion. Some dishes were really good, others were underwhelming. Portion sizes were exceptionally small, even for a Taster menu. Some things just jarred music, long waits between courses and some holes in the Somellier’s knowledge. We so want this restaurant to be better than it is. Easily eclipsed by the Three Chimneys and Loch Bay in our opinion. That said, it’s been voted as the best restaurants in Scotland in March 2023

We’ve probably eaten out here the most. Last time we had a great Turbot on skewers and an aged beef. One of our Guests returned and reported that they do a pretty good Cocktail as well, they certainly seemed effective anyway… 🙂

In May 2023 one of our Canadian Guests said it was “the best restaurant they’d EVER been to with the best service!”. We last ate here in August 23, it was amongst the best Vegetarian meals Simon has had (He was vegetarian from 1986 to 2013). Lots of local Croft grown vegetables. No alcohol (there’s a Tea pairing with the food). 2 sittings a night normally a choice of Starter and Dessert with a set main course.
