We always recommend pre-booking Restaurants a few days or more ahead as they often get full quickly, especially in peak season. If you arrive with us in the evening and then try to book a restaurant last minute, you may not be able to get in. Many Pubs also serve excellent food.
There’s everything from Michelin Star Fine Dining to fantastic roadside Fish and Chips within easy reach of Achalochan House, as ever, you pay your money and take your choice. Please don’t book ‘just in case’ and then cancel at the last minute.
Please be aware that the limit for Drink Driving in Scotland is 22 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. It’s much easier to just not drink if you’re the designated driver. Need a Taxi? See our information here.
We have listed places to eat that are local to Achalochan House. There are many more places to eat on Skye , mostly in Portree.
Pubs and Drinking
Check the individual Pub Website or give them a call to see what’s on. Many have live music nights which are well worth going to. These local pubs also do lovely food.
Lovely Lochside Pub (Skye’s oldest) with stunning views out over Loch Bay and out into Loch Dunvegan. We eat here regularly and our Guests also report great food. Our favourites would be the the Moules or the Langoustines.

Lovely food and welcome, sometimes with live music. Not to be confused with the Edinbane Lodge Fine Dining Restaurant just over the road!
No online booking or telephone. reservations. Another Pub with stunning Lochside views over Loch Harport and towards the Cuillin. There’s a Lochside Terrace you can sit and eat on. Inside there’s normally a nice fire in bad weather and a good selection of beers. Often has live music. The Seafood Chowder is great choice, I’ve had it every time for the last 4 visits!

Out of this world food and experience from Chef Scott Davies. We’ve eaten here several times for special occasions and not been disappointed.

Michelin Star Fine Dining from Chef Michael Smith. Sublime seafood with no vegetarian options or allowance for Shellfish allergies. All locally sourced, some from the Loch right outside. We last ate here in July ’23. It was superlative.

Fine Dining, Skye born Chef Calum Montgomery Calum has worked as head chef at notable restaurants Kinloch Lodge and Ullinish Lodge and spent time at the Two Michelin Star Restaurant Frederikshøj in Denmark where he found great inspiration for his own cooking and took home a deeper respect for ingredients.
We’ve eaten here twice, once during lockdown so the atmosphere suffered. 2nd time was in September 23. It lacked several area of polish to justify the price tag in our opinion. Some dishes were really good, others were underwhelming. Portion sizes were exceptionally small, even for a Taster menu. Some things just jarred music, long waits between courses and some holes in the Somellier’s knowledge. We so want this restaurant to be better than it is. Easily eclipsed by the Three Chimneys and Loch Bay in our opinion. That said, it’s been voted as the best restaurants in Scotland in March 2023

We’ve Eaten here several times, Seafood is great, arguably the nicest Cullen Skink we’ve had.

We’ve probably eaten out here the most. Last time we had a great Turbot on skewers and an aged beef. One of our Guests returned and reported that they do a pretty good Cocktail as well, they certainly seemed effective anyway… 🙂

In May 2023 one of our Canadian Guests said it was “the best restaurant they’d EVER been to with the best service!”. We last ate here in August 23, it was amongst the best Vegetarian meals Simon has had (He was vegetarian from 1986 to 2013). Lots of local Croft grown vegetables. No alcohol (there’s a Tea pairing with the food). 2 sittings a night normally a choice of Starter and Dessert with a set main course.
The Dulse & Brose menu reflects the vast Skye, Highland and wider Scottish larder: island and west coast seafood, Skye vegetables and salads, fine cuts of choice meat, Highland and east-coast Scottish cheese and delicious desserts to satisfy even the sweetest tooth.

Great for a breakfast or lunchtime meal. We’ve eaten here many times and since the new owners have taken over in 2022, it’s been consistently good and upped its game. We go back again and again!
